This little palace from the Museo Davia Bargellini in Bologna

is a rare example of a dollhouse from Italy

een zeldzaam voorbeeld van een poppenhuis uit Italië

Little is known about its origin

According to an old description, there was once a card 

in the hall with the name “Guiseppa Sorm,” 

possibly Sormani, a noble family from Emilia

Over de herkomst is weinig bekend

Volgens een oude beschrijving lag ooit een kaartje in de hal waarop

 

de naam “Guiseppa Sorm” stond,

 

mogelijk Sormani, een adelijke familie uit Emilia

The dollhouse does not exactly replicate a real house, 

but it does display characteristics of 

18th-century architecture in Bologna

The frescoed ceilings in the interior and

the furniture are genuinely Italian in style

Het poppenhuis bootst niet exact een huis na maar vertoont

 

wel kenmerken van de achttiende eeuwse architectuur in Bologna

De frescobeschilderingen op de plafonds in het interieur 

 

en de meubels zijn echt Italiaans van vorm

The same applies to the kitchen furnishings as well as 

to the impressive canopy bed in the alcove of the 

bedroom and the matching “gondola” cradle

The chests in the hall, decorated with floral garlands,

follow the tradition of the Emilia region, 

and no expense was spared on gilding

Dat geldt evenzeer voor de keukeninrichting als

 

voor het indrukwekkende hemelbed in de alkoof van

 

de slaapkamer en de bijpassende wieg “a gondola”

De met bloemkransen beschilderde kisten in de hal passen 

 

in de traditie van de landstreek Emilia en 

 

op verguldsel is niet bespaard
