I tried miniature painting for the first time, thanks to an online workshop

After finishing the painting, I varnished it and framed it, but I’ve now decided to 

display it unframed on the easel in the hobby room of my dollhouse

Ik heb me voor het eerst gewaagd aan miniatuur schilderen

dankzij een online workshop

Na het schilderen had ik hem gelakt en in een lijst gedaan maar heb 

nu toch besloten om hem zonder lijst op de schildersezel te zetten

in de hobbykamer van mijn poppenhuis

The grocery shop in 1:8 scale is finished / Het kruidenierswinkeltje schaal 1:8 is klaar

The little toy shop I received recently is finished, and it’s ready to be played with

Het kinderwinkeltje dat ik laatst heb gekregen is klaar 

en er kan mee gespeeld worden 

The shop window has been given a Sinterklaas theme, because I think it’s 

the nicest Dutch children’s celebration of the year — as long as children still believe in it

De etalage heeft het thema Sinterklaas gekregen want dat vind ik zelf het 

leukste kinderfeest van het jaar zolang kinderen er nog in geloven

The groceries aren’t all in the right scale, but children don’t mind that

De boodschappen hebben niet allemaal de juiste schaal 

maar dat maakt kinderen niet uit

This is what the little shop looked like when I received it

Zo was het winkeltje toen ik het kreeg

I was able to pick up a little shop for free

It’s made of wood and in 1:8 scale, so it’s perfect for my grandchildren to play with

Ik heb een winkeltje gratis mogen ophalen

Het is schaal 1:8, van hout gemaakt dus leuk voor 

mijn kleinkinderen om mee te spelen

It needs a lot of sanding because it’s covered in thick blobs of filler

Het moet flink worden geschuurd want het zit vol met dikke klodders albastine

I’ve started treating the furniture with gesso

Ik ben begonnen met de meubels te behandelen met Gesso

This is how the scale looked before, and this is how it turned out

Zo was de weegschaal en zo werd hij...

I glued the little tray onto the scale and painted it silver and
I also resized and attached the Berkel scale labels

These miniatures are in the right scale and actually came from my old little shop

It’s lovely that, almost 60 years later, my grandchildren will be playing with them

Deze miniatuurtjes zijn in de goede schaal en nog van mijn winkeltje geweest

Leuk dat bijna 60 jaar later mijn kleinkinderen er mee gaan spelen

Now all that’s left is to paint the little shop itself and make the contents
