A butter churn, scale 1:12 / Een stampkarn schaal 1:12
I bought a wooden butter churn for the dollhouse kitchen
From now on, the cook can make fresh butter
The production and use of butter has existed for thousands of years
To form butter, the fat globules must clump together,
and this happens by agitating the soured cream
The butter grains then rise to the top, and this process,
called churning, takes about 45 minutes

Wood supply in the dollhouse replenished / Houtvoorraad in het poppenhuis aangevuld
During the cold winter months, there must be enough wood
in stock to keep the stoves and fireplaces in the dollhouse burning,
which is why the supply has been replenished

"Trompe l’œil"… a book wall in the dollhouse library / "Trompe l`oeil" .... een boekenwand in de bibliotheek van het poppenhuis
I have wallpapered the first wall in my dollhouse
It is a “Trompe l’œil” depicting a wall of books and
an open door, giving a view into a long hallway
Trompe l'oeil is an age-old painting technique
that creates an illusion of striking realism
The term trompe l'oeil comes from French and literally means
“deceive the eye”
It is commonly used in still life paintings,
but also appears in murals to suggest, for instance
the actual presence of columns or statues
In ceiling paintings, this technique can even
create the illusion of architectural features,
such as a dome

The dollhouse library now has a wooden floor / De bibliotheek van het poppenhuis heeft nu een houten vloer
The dollhouse library now features a floor made
of thin wooden (veneered) slats,
giving the room an instant sense of warmth and coziness
It feels like the perfect setting to settle in with a good book
I enjoy my display cabinet every day,
which stands in the living room and
is visible from my armchair
Although everything is still unarranged,
the cabinet is gradually starting to
look more and more like a dollhouse

The bookshelves, 1:12 scale, for the library are now filled / De boekenkasten schaal 1:12 voor de bibliotheek zijn gevuld
I then spent many hours crafting more than 160 little books
before the shelves were finally filled
The cabinet also holds a tiny Eiffel Tower,
a keepsake from a wonderful weekend in Paris,
along with a delicate fishbowl, a little deer,
and a copper tobacco jar
Together, these treasures give the dollhouse
library a personal and charming touch
The box of Cuban cigars in the cabinet brings
back memories of several wonderful vacations
in that remarkable country,

Library cabinets in 1:12 scale have now been repurposed as storage cabinets / Biblioteekkasten schaal 1:12 zijn nu de voorraadkasten geworden
I had bought two clear-varnished bookcases for the dollhouse library
and wanted to stain them in old pine
Sanding by hand takes too much effort, so I used a Dremel instead
Unfortunately, I discovered during staining that
the sanding hadn’t gone perfectly
In some places, I had sanded too deeply,
which caused dark spots on the cabinets
I ended up staining the cabinets a total of
seven times and then varnished them
They are now moving to the basement of the
dollhouse to serve as storage cabinets
A little mouse has already sniffed out
the piece of cheese in the storage room!
In the meantime, I’ve bought new cabinets for the library
This time, the cabinets are made of untreated wood,
so I can start staining them right away
