Workbench in 1:12 scale made / Werkbank schaal 1:12 gemaakt
I made a “workbench” that is now placed in the
storage room in the basement of the dollhouse
This is where the small tasks are done,
such as polishing shoes and filling the oil lamps
All the cleaning supplies (Reutter) are within easy reach
On the shelf is a can of oil and a small oil can for filling the oil lamp

Een heel groot poppenhuis van rond 1910
donderdag 26 juli 2012
The storage room now has a "tiled" floor / De voorraadkamer heeft nu een "plavuizen" vloer
The storage room in the basement of the dollhouse and the
laundry room now have the same "tiled floor"
even though the lighting might make it look different
This is Victorian tile paper from Dolls House Emporium,
and you can lay it all at once because it measures
43 cm deep × 60 cm long
I’m going to varnish the floor, which will make
it easy to clean if there’s ever a little accident

I incorporate my hobbies into the dollhouse hobby room / Mijn hobby`s verwerk ik in de hobbykamer van het poppenhuis
My dollhouse will also have a hobby room,
where I will incorporate my own hobbies
A computer and blogs didn’t exist in 1900,
so instead, there will be a writing desk with a notepad
I love music, so there will also be a music stand
with old sheet music that I’ve reduced to 1:12 scale, along with a violin
I have old dollhouse photos and cut-out furniture
that I’ve reduced to 1:12 scale
Nowadays, we use the internet to find ideas for our hobbies,
but in 1900, people had to gather their
information from books and magazines
The paint box still sits unused on the table,
but that will surely change soon
Traveling was my greatest hobby for many years,
so I will certainly hang some black-and-white photos
from my trips on the wall

Wine table, 1:12 scale, for the dollhouse / Wijntafeltje schaal 1:12 voor het poppenhuis
I stained a plain wooden “wine table”
and it now stands in the dollhouse library next to the armchairs
From their cozy seats, they can easily reach for a glass of wine

Poppenhuis "Queen Mary's Rooms" 1920-1924

The floor in the dollhouse laundry room is finished / De vloer in de wasruimte van het poppenhuis is klaar
The floor of the laundry room in the basement is in place,
and I was curious to see how it would look
I’ve just placed everything loosely for the photo,
but a side wall still needs wallpaper, a door needs
to be installed, and beams will be added to the ceiling
There is a table with chairs for the staff,
they can have their coffee
The fireplace with the pot stove
(which I made myself—see unther workshop)
and the coal scuttle will be placed here
Next, the countertop and laundry accessories will be placed here
I’m still looking for an old wooden washing machine,
because that would also fit perfectly
I bought the Borax soap and Reckitt’s Starch from Art of Mini
I made the tubs out of paper

Two standing drying racks in 1:12 scale for the dollhouse / Twee staande droogrekken schaal 1:12 voor het poppenhuis
I now have two standing drying racks for the dollhouse
The rack above will be placed in the drying attic, near the stove
The rack below will go in the laundry room in the
basement for drying hand-washed items
For the sheets, I still want to make a hanging drying rack from the attic ceiling,
like the one you can see in the photo below from an antique dollhouse

I made a fireplace mantel for the kitchen of my dollhouse / Ik heb een schouw gemaakt voor de keuken van mijn poppenhuis
I made a fireplace mantel for the little stove in the dollhouse kitchen,
so that the smoke can, of course, be properly vented
It appears a bit tilted in the photo, but it is still simply leaning against the wall
Once the lighting is installed, I can fix everything permanently to the wall
I tiled the back wall so that the area behind the stove is
easy to clean if any mess occurs while cooking
I built a shelf around the mantel, where the French storage canisters
and the coffee grinder now have a nice place

The dollhouse *“De Sminia-State”* by Clara van Sminia, 1857–1887 / Het poppenhuis "De Sminia-State" van Clara van Sminia 1857-1887
This stately home was made for Lady Clara van Sminia (1857–1887).
Clara lived with her father (her mother passed away
in the year she was born, 1857) on the
De Klinze estate in Oudkerk, Friesland, The Netherlands
The dollhouse was intended as a toy, not as a showpiece.
All the rooms were accessible to children, as sections
of the front and side façades could be removed
The fully furnished interior, with trinkets, thick carpets,
and hunting trophies, is richly detailed and provides an accurate
depiction of life in a mid-19th-century noble country house
All the rooms are fully decorated with wallpaper, carpets,
and curtains, and there is even a piano that really plays
In the dining room, the gilded chandelier and the art cabinet stand out
The furnishings largely consist of factory-made miniature furniture
and items that were readily available at the time
The stately residence can be seen in its various rooms
It is furnished with a large kitchen, dining room,
several salons, luxurious bedrooms, and even a convenience room,
the predecessor of the modern toilet
You really get a sense of life among the Frisian nobility in the 19th century
The dollhouse is part of the collection of the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden
