Kentia palm, scale 1:12, made / Kentia palm schaal 1:12 gemaakt
I made a Kentia palm (or Howea forsteriana)
from rice paper for the salon of the dollhouse
The Kentia palm is a very hardy, long-lasting,
and easy-to-care-for plant and one of the
strongest palms suitable for a living room
The workshop was easy to follow, even though it
involved very delicate cutting work for me
I lined the wicker pot with plastic and then filled it with clay
Next, I sprinkled dried coffee grounds over
the clay and inserted the leaves
The salon is becoming cozier and more inviting with
all these flowers and plants

French wine rack, scale 1:12 / Frans wijnrek schaal 1:12
The wine rack fits in the corner of the salon
and was black when purchased
I painted it gold so that it better matches the
furniture and the birdcage in the salon
Here, the wine bottles can rest at room temperature
after being taken out of the cold cellar

Dollhouse of “Grandma” Backer and other antique toys in the Simon van Gijn House in Dordrecht / Poppenhuis van "Grootje" Backer en ander antiek speelgoed in het Simon van Gijnhuis in Dordrecht
The Simon van Gijn House in Dordrecht is a beautiful
old residence that has been turned into a museum since 1925
In the attic, you’ll find antique toys, miniature rooms, and a few dollhouses
Among them is the famous dollhouse of
Agnes Maria Clifford, who lived from 1739 to 1810
Since the birth of her grandchildren, she was
affectionately called “Grandma” Backer
In her later years, Agnes, the wife of Cornelis Backer,
devoted herself to furnishing and decorating two dollhouses
Her initials A.M.C., the dates 1805 and 1806, and her ages 66 and 67
are embroidered into the floor carpets of both houses
Owning older dolls’ furnishings may have inspired her,
and in 1789 she inherited the miniature silver

The style of the furnishings and the dolls’ clothing
reflects the period between 1785 and 1810
In particular, the detailed dressing of the English wooden dolls is spectacular
Unique miniature theater: “In het lustige beestenspul”
The eight illustrated diaries of Jacob de Vos form a
rich source of information about upbringing and toys in the 19th century
The boys loved the drawings made by their father
They served as a reward for diligent work and study
If they hadn’t studied on a given day, no drawing would appear in the diary
