Materials needed:
-
Piece of cardboard, 2 mm thick
-
2 identical buttons, 2 cm in diameter
-
1 button without holes, 3 cm in diameter (or a round piece of cardboard)
-
Corrugated cardboard from a cookie package
-
Glue and cocktail sticks
-
Gesso
-
White and black paint
-
Fine brush
-
Pencil
Cut a 2.5 x 2.5 cm square from the 2 mm thick cardboard.
Glue the two buttons together, then attach them to the piece of cardboard
Cut a piece of corrugated cardboard measuring 7 cm long and 4 cm wide
Carefully roll the corrugated cardboard around a pen to create a curve
Using a cocktail stick, apply a thin line of glue along one ridge
Glue it in place and let it dry thoroughly
Attach the rolled piece to the buttons
Glue the button without holes (or the round piece of cardboard) on top
Coat the entire piece with gesso and let it dry thoroughly
Paint the pedestal with white paint
While the paint is still wet, work in some black or grey to create a marble effect
If you’re not happy with the result, you can simply paint over it again
Once the paint is dry, you can carefully draw fine veins with a pencil to mimic real marble
You can use a photo from the internet as a reference if you like
